The Tynes desperately need a lot of rain, in fact the EA state the South Tyne is one of three rivers in England classified as exceptionally low.  The North Tyne level has been supported by additional releases from Kielder reservoir , these releases encourage fish to leave the upper estuary and migrate upriver. Despite the high water temperatures and low natural flow, over 4,500 fish passed  over the Environment Agency fish counter at Riding Mill so far this month , bringing the total count for 2018 to date to around 10,000. The great majority of fish are migrating overnight, if river temperatures continue to fall conditions  for fish will improve.

Any salmon fishing at Chesters on the North Tyne booked through Reeltime Fishing for W/C 6th August will benefit Tyne Rivers Trust through a £5 donation. To book call 077537 29192.
