River reports

The recent rains increased river levels throughout the system, the fresh water moved large numbers of fish which had been in the river for some time.

Rods on the North Tyne at Chesters saw lots of salmon splashing about as the river lifted. The vast majority of fish are well coloured, indeed many of the fish leaving the estuary are coloured, as are fish entering the river from the sea.

Rods are catching fish, however most rods are putting in a lot of effort with many fish showing a reluctance to take.

Tim Taylor caught his first ever salmon at Chesters, the fish was estimated to be 16lbs. Gary Vidler had two salmon during his short visit, the largest was a 14lb fish from Waters Meet, the other fish coming from Chesters.

The river has cleared nicely whilst falling slowly. The Bywell gauge was at 0.817 mtrs today, Warden was 0.305 and Reaverhill was showing 0.816.

Water temperature is 9.5C.

Little rain is forecast until next week giving rods on all beats an increasing chance of a fish.
