River reports

As this is written the North Tyne is falling and clearing nicely following the coloured spate which went through the river yesterday. The lower South Tyne lifted again around midday carrying coloured water, it is expected to fall and clear soon as little rain is forecast. The river levels could fluctuate depending on the location and duration of showers earlier today.

Spring tides will remain over 5.0 metres until the 4th October; high tides such as this will usually encourage fresh fish to enter the rivers. The fresh water from this week’s rain coinciding with the spring tides should give ideal running conditions. Water temperatures are falling to a more seasonal level which should also stimulate fish to take; the only negative regarding river condition is wind direction which will be mainly from the south east.
