River Tyne 25th August 2016

Kielder release

The current Kielder release will finish at 07.00 on Friday 26th August. The rise in reservoir level means that the release for the week commencing the 25th will be for seven days at 12 cumecs, starting at 13.30 on Monday 29th August.

For the week commencing on 1st September, no release has yet been proposed but the schedule gives a starting time of 19.30 on Friday, 2nd September, six hours after the 12 cumecs release is planned to finish.

If there is no more rain before next Wednesday, it is possible the release will reduce to 9.3 cumecs and likely to run for more than three days. This will be decided next week

 

Tyne salmon counts

Significant numbers of fish are moving into and through the Tynes; accurate figures should be available next week.

Migratory fish continue to enter the Tynes in significant numbers the count for August to the 17th is 3,009. The total count for the year to date is 21,033.

This level of activity is reflected in upriver rod catches.

  The fish counter revised figure for July is 9,919.  

The Environment Agency has confirmed the total for June was 7,113, arecord count for the month since 1996 (when the counter was commissioned).   

River reports

The water levels have reduced, fish are been caught almost everywhere. Notable catches include Lambley with eight salmon to 16lb from the South Tyne.

Stuart Binns has landed six salmon to 15lbs at Chesters, where Will Clay reported a good fish of 20lb, large fish are showing in many beat catches this week, Styford reporting one at 22lbs.
