At last the weather has turned unsettled bring much needed rain to the Tyne catchment, a decent spate is flowing reaching 1.8 mtrs in the Main Tyne.

The worries regarding the late smolt migration have eased, the high flows providing safe passage to the sea.

Over 1,000 upstream counts for the year to the end of May were recorded at Riding Mill, the current spates are well into the estuary, encouraging migratory fish to run into the system and hopefully to travel well upstream.

It is expected this cooler wet weather will lead to many more fish and a welcome increase in rod catches.
