River Tyne 03 June 2016

Kielder release

The reservoir remains below the trigger levels for June so no release will occur during the coming week and none is planned for the week commencing 9th June.

Tyne Salmon counts

The fish counter at Riding Mill recorded 832upstream counts for May and up to the morning of the 1st June. The total for the season up to the 1st June is 1016.Close to half of the May count occurred  when there was a small rise in water levels.

River reports

The rivers are at the lowest level with the South Tyne back to near drought conditions, the North Tyne dependent on compensation flow of 1.3 cumecs, the physical features of the river bed can be clearly seen. The one positive is that this is a good time to view the changes created by the winter storms. A few fish have been caught on the Main Tyne, however only 5 salmon have been reported from beats above Hexham Bridge. Please note that not all catches are reported, never the less, the reports reflect a very low catch rate for this time of season. James Stokoe caught one salmon at Warden and George Benson landed a 9lb fish at Chesters.  Fresh fish are continuing to show in Hexham Bridge pool.
